Dear CES and JJIS Families,
I hope you are enjoying a wonderful summer and finding time to relax, recharge, and make special memories with your families. As we begin preparing for the 2026–2027 school year, I wanted to share an important leadership update with our school communities.
As part of the district's efforts to address budgetary challenges while maintaining a strong educational experience for students, I will be serving as principal of both Colchester Elementary School (CES) and Jack Jackter Intermediate School (JJIS) for the coming school year. This is a one year arrangement designed to support the district's financial needs while ensuring that both schools continue to receive strong leadership, guidance, and support.
For our JJIS families, I want to reassure you that my commitment to your children and families remains unchanged. I am incredibly proud of the work we have accomplished together and remain fully dedicated to continuing that work. Our focus on student achievement, belonging, school culture, and providing meaningful learning experiences for every child will continue to guide our decisions and actions each day.
For our CES families, I would like to take a moment to introduce myself. Prior to becoming principal at JJIS, I served as the assistant principal at William J. Johnston Middle School for seven years. Before entering school leadership, I spent 18 years in elementary education as a classroom teacher and instructional coach. Throughout my career, I have developed a deep passion for curriculum, instruction, and helping all students reach their full potential. Elementary education has always held a special place in my heart, and I am excited for the opportunity to partner with the students, staff, and families of CES.
In addition to being an educator and school leader, I am also a parent in Colchester Public Schools. My twins attend our elementary schools, which gives me a personal appreciation for the trust families place in us each day. As both a parent and principal, I am fully committed to working hard on behalf of all students and ensuring that every child feels supported, accepted, and valued.
I also want to reassure families that this leadership model is supported by an outstanding team. Kelly Bahre, Melissa Cyr, and I have already begun working closely together to ensure that both schools continue to run smoothly and that students, staff, and families receive the support they need. Together, we bring a wealth of experience, strong relationships, and a shared commitment to the success of every child. We believe this partnership creates a unique opportunity to strengthen connections between our schools and provide a seamless experience for students as they progress through their elementary years.
Building strong relationships with families is incredibly important to me. I encourage you to reach out at any time with questions, concerns, or simply to introduce yourself. I am available throughout the summer and would be happy to connect with you. You can reach me directly at sewings@colchesterct.org.
I will also be attending the Story Nights at both schools and would love the opportunity to meet you in person. Please feel free to stop by and introduce yourself:
JJIS Story Night – August 10
CES Story Night – August 17
Thank you for your continued support of our schools and our district. I look forward to partnering with you and working together to ensure a successful, joyful, and rewarding school year for all students.
Warmly,
Dr. Stacy Ewings
Principal, Colchester Elementary School & Jack Jackter Intermediate School
