JJIS News from the Cafeteria
2025 – 2026
I hope you and your family have had a wonderful summer so far. We are so excited to return to school for another exciting year!
Breakfast and Lunch will be available to all students starting on the first day of school and are offered every school day. PLEASE NOTE: breakfast will not be offered when there is a 2 hour delay opening. PLEASE HELP YOUR CHILD(REN) LEARN AND MEMORIZE THEIR 5 DIGIT STUDENT CODE AS THEY WILL NEED TO USE THIS NUMBER WHEN GETTING A MEAL.
MEAL PRICING – students qualified for reduced priced meals – breakfast is 30 cents and lunch is 40 cents. For students who do not qualify for free or reduced priced meals - breakfast is $1.80 and lunch is $3.00. CPS strongly encourages parents to fill out and submit a free/reduced application for the school year 2025-26. If your student(s) qualifies for free or reduced meals, it doesn’t only help you as a family it helps Colchester Public Schools. It will help our district qualify for more government grants towards education for our children.
Students who were eligible for free/reduced meals at the end of the school year 2024-25 will be allowed to continue that status for up to 30 operating days into the new school year (or until a new eligibility determination has been made, whichever comes first) – the 30 day rollover ends at the end of the day October 9, 2025. A free/reduced application will be sent home with each student on the first day of school. They have also been sent through parentsquare, are also available on the Colchester Public School website at colchesterct.org and hard copies are available in the main office. Should you have any questions regarding the application process, please contact Leanne Ranheim at (860) 537-9421 ext. 6507 (after August 25, 2025) or by email anytime: lranheim@colchesterct.org.
We will be offering snacks for students to purchase (starting September 17) – variety of chips (85 cents), ice cream ($1.00), cookies (85 cents), rice krispie treats (85 cents), fruit rollups (85 cents), small water bottles (50 cents) and milk (65 cents). These can be purchased daily on a cash only basis and prices are subject to change. Please note, milk is included with the purchase of breakfast and lunch. If you would like to allow your child(ren) to purchase snacks using their meal account, you need to send a note or email to Leanne Ranheim, cafeteria manager, giving permission to do so. To add money to your child(ren)’s meal account, you can send cash or check in with your student (clearly marked with your child(ren)’s name) or you can create an account at mypaymentsplus.com to add money electronically. The District encourages pre-payment of meals. Students will never be denied breakfast or lunch. If a student charges a meal, payment is expected as soon as possible.
Should you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at (860) 537-9421 ext. 6507 from 7:30 AM - 2:00 PM or by email: lranheim@colchesterct.org.
Sincerely,
Leanne Ranheim, JJIS Cafeteria Manager / District Nutrition Program Coordinator
