If there is a delayed opening, the JJIS school day will start 2 hours later at 10:35. Students not taking the bus should be dropped off no earlier than 10:20 AM (15 minutes before school begins).
It is now possible to receive text messages through SchoolMessenger about delayed openings and cancellations. We will still continue to call you, however, for unscheduled early dismissals. For instructions on setting up text alerts, please visit our website at: Colchester: SchoolMessenger Information. If a “no school” decision can be made the previous evening, you will receive a SchoolMessenger email and/or text. If the decision to close schools is made after 9:00 PM, announcements will be broadcast through the courtesy of the radio and television stations listed above.
EMERGENCY CLOSING
In the event of early dismissal, parents will receive a phone call, via our SchoolMessenger emergency phone messaging system. Please be sure to keep your contact information in the PowerSchool Parent Portal up to date so that you receive messages in a timely fashion.
NOTE: When school is cancelled or closes early due to weather or emergency, ALL AFTERNOON AND EVENING EVENTS ARE CANCELLED.
FIRE & LOCKDOWN DRILLS
In accordance with state law, emergency drills are held throughout the year to prepare all students and teachers should an emergency arise. During a fire drill, all students, staff and visitors leave the building.. ABSOLUTE SILENCE is maintained at all times to prevent confusion. Teachers accompany their students out of the building according to a plan and all are accounted for. School lockdown drills will be conducted in addition to fire drills.
